Сегодня мы соединили других волонтеров от восстановлять совместно, много из комукому перемещали с другой стороны страны, и начатая работа на восстановлять/rehabbing 50 домов в 5 днях. Мы были помещены на главном и красим обязанность сегодня. Владельцы дома были смещены в Атлант в виду того что ураган Катрина и они смотрит вперед к возвращающ к их дому который почти закончен. Их рассказ подобен к много других которые восстановляющ совместно помощь. |

It is no secret that New York City is the most expensive place to live in the United States. Not only is the cost of living through the roof, but also when it comes to real estate, you won't get much bang for your buck when it comes to buying a home. Square Feet: 650 Bedrooms: 1 Bathrooms: 1 Amenities: High ceilings, live-in superintendent, voice intercom to your front gate and your kitchen will have a window. 
2. Ogden, UT
Of course, prices drop as you exit the city and enter Middle America. Not only is your day-to-day cost of living much more affordable but houses and land are literally dirt cheap. Amongst the cheapest places to buy a home in the US is Ogden, UT. Square Feet: 4,897 Bedrooms: 6 Bathrooms: 4 full, 1 half Amenities: 3 car garage, nearly an acre of property, waterfall, fruit trees, garden, stainless steel appliances, 2 large family rooms, 2 non-bedrooms for extra space, multiple fireplace, balcony, bonus room, central A/C and 10ft ceilings. 
3. San Francisco, CA
While most of northern California is mostly affordable, the city of San Francisco is top of the list for expensive real estate. Because property is hard to come by, the houses are piled on top of each other and $500K doesn't go too far. Square Feet: 975 Bedrooms: 2 Bathrooms: 1 Amenities: 1 car garage, shared landscape garden, hardwood floors, breakfast nook, fireplace and appliances included! 
4. Spokane, WA
Tucked in the northern border of the great northwest, Spokane, WA is known as one of the more affordable housing markets in the land. If you don't mind living near Canada and many many miles from a large city, $500K will go a long way. Square Feet: Unknown Lot Size: 80 acres Bedrooms: 4 Bathrooms: 3 Amenities: 2 car garage and total privacy. 
5. Maui, HI
Ever dreamed of leaving the motherland and buying a quaint little bungalow in Hawaii? Well, although Hawaii is one of the more expensive markets in all of real estate, your exotic dream is not totally unachievable. Square Feet: 1029 Lot Size: 0.31 acres Bedrooms: 3 Bathrooms: 2 Amenities: crown molding, whirlpool style tub, large yard, fruit trees, hot tub and cul-de-sac location. 
6. Southern California
Considering northern California (outside of SF) can be moderately affordable, southern California, across the board is filled with America's most expensive real estate. The average home in La Jolla is $1.842 million, in Beverly Hills it's $1.777 million, in Palo Alto it's $1.741 million and in Santa Monica it's $1.653 million. All that said, $500K doesn't go quite as far as it does in the rest of the country: Square Feet: Unknown Bedrooms: 3 Bathrooms: 2 Amenities: Not a ton to brag about. 
7. Minneapolis, MN
If life on the water is more your speed, the Great Lake territories can offer some pretty affordable homes on the water. With lots of land to go around and a plethora of lakes to chose from, $500K is more than enough to live comfortably on a waterfront property. Square Feet: Unknown Lot Size: 1.25 acres Bedrooms: 5 Bathrooms: 3 Amenities: Ranch style home in a golf course community, serenity, private day dock and beach. 8. South Beach, FL
If you're seeking a more tropical environment but don't want to travel outside of the lower 48 states to get there, southern Florida is your best bet. Although $500K won't get you very much living space, the view from your window is sure to be worth the cash. Square Feet: 960 Bedrooms: 2 Bathrooms: 2 Amenities: Condo with view of the ocean, A/C, parking space, balcony, shared pool, children's play area and all of your standard appliances. 
9. Fort Worth, TX
If the mountains are too secluded for your taste and you've never fared well in the tropical environments, maybe the great plains of Texas will be more your pace. In the greater Forth Worth area, spacious homes are a decent buy – especially if you're a golfer. Square Feet: 4,205 Bedrooms: 4 Bathrooms: 5 Amenities: 3 car garage, golf course access, 10×40 covered patio, gourmet kitchen, media room with blackout shades and a hobby room. 
10. Palmer, AK
If it's solitude you're seeking, try your odds in the great outdoors of Alaska. I’m a firm believer that a few colorful accents can make or break a space, infusing life into each corner with a vibrant, bold hue or toning down an otherwise busy space with muted shades of furniture. Of course, color can be hard to tackle (in fact, a quick Internet search proves there are over 300 shades of white alone!) and sometimes nearly impossible to choose the right tone. Yet with these easy, foolproof tips, you’re sure to choose the right shade that both inspires and calms the spirit. Ready for your first session in Color 101?:  Find that perfect pink online. 1. Get inspired.
If you’re even remotely Internet savvy, there are billions of resources that exist solely to inspire. A few of my favorite online haunts often feature home tours, eye candy and photographed rooms that are sure to leave you wiping the drool from your keyboard in no time flat.

Take your color inspiration to your local hardware store and invest in a can of paint. Whether you choose to paint your walls or a statement piece of furniture, be sure to infuse plenty of your favorite color in the space you’re working on. Not ready for the commitment of a new paint choice on your walls? Start small by painting a vase or picture frame to test out the color. If you love it, start choosing fabrics, textiles and patterns that feature your favorite hue.  When in doubt, use them all! 5. Give it up.
Can’t find your favorite shade? Try them all! Color needn’t be used sparingly, and sometimes, more is more. For an eclectic feel, try mixing plenty of colors, patterns and textures on a neutral background.  Think you have to paint your walls to infuse color? Think again! 6. Keep it simple.
Just because you love a color doesn’t necessarily mean you should be coating your walls with the stuff. White paint acts as a great starting point to add your favorite colorful accessories. Have fun; decorating shouldn’t be a chore. Even better? When you tire of your favorite color, switching out a rug or artwork is much easier than re-priming and painting! What I love most about this collection is that some of these bathroom transitions didn’t cost the homeowners much at all. In fact, several were completed with a simple coat of paint, a few shelves and a weekend's worth of time. This home was built in 1956, but all the homeowners had to do to revamp their bathroom was give it a fresh coat of paint and add fun retro accessories. It's simple, but really brings the room to life. #6—Blah and boring to glitzy glamour

The old bathroom was nothing more than a boring blank canvas, but after the remodel? Well that's something else entirely. The gold-framed pictures, black-and-white window treatments, glitzy chandelier and beautiful flowers make this space burst with personality.

When this contemporary remodel was posted on HGTV's Rate My Space, people estimated that it cost $40,000. It actually rang in at just $8,000. Quite impressive, if I do say so myself. #8—Good before, but even better after

Do the dirty work up-front and get the complete skinny on your choice rather than relying on "the good vibes" you're getting from them, even though chemistry is also important. In building, you really do get what you pay for. A higher bid (within reason) can often mean better quality materials, work ethic and craftsmanship. #3—Be precise and specific on everything. In the same way that we've all gone into the hairdresser's and said, "Oh, just a take a little off," and came out much too cropped, speaking in vague terms (no matter how in-tune the contractor seems), will only widen the possibility for misunderstanding. It's even more important to be precise when binding things in writing. Look at every detail mentioned and make sure it is exactly what you discussed. Then, take a step back from the details of the project and look at the overall contract. Have someone else also review it before you sign. #5—For larger projects, pay by project and not by hour. Some payment up-front is fine and often expected, but do not pay in full until the job is completed one-hundred percent.This will eliminate your stress over whether the job is getting done most efficiently—and will entice the contractor to finish up more quickly and skillfully. Posted: 24 Aug 2010 10:42 AM PDT There are some building materials that are so commonplace today that it’s pretty easy to take them for granted. But, there was a time when the world went without them, until someone dreamed them up for our benefit. So, what are some of the types of building materials that fall under this category, and who are the visionaries who helped to usher them into our daily lives? Take a look at these 10 stalwart building materials products, and learn about who invented them, and how. 1. Plywood
One of the major advances in home building in the last couple hundred years is the development of plywood. Invented in Stockholm in the mid 1800s by Swedish engineer Immanuel Nobel, plywood involves gluing various flat sheets of wood together with their grains at right angles for maximum strength. Nobel was the inventor of the rotary lathe that is used in the manufacturing of plywood; therefore, plywood itself is a direct result of one of his previous inventions. Interestingly enough, the same family to bring you these fine products is the same group that brought us dynamite! Yes, Immanuel's son Alfred followed in his industrious father's footsteps and eventually invented dynamite. 
2. Skilsaw
The days of sawing things manually ended in 1921, in the sugar cane fields of New Orleans, when Frenchman Edmond Michel fashioned the prototype for the modern skilsaw. Because the workers were simply using machetes to cut through the thick stalks, in an effort to increase efficiency, he affixed a machete to a milk mixer motor and gearbox and invented a rather crude and ineffective version of a circular saw. In the years to follow he drastically tweaked his design, applied for a patent and ultimately changed the face of modern construction with his innovative line of skilsaws. 
3. Duct Tape
Already noted for their adhesive bandages (BAND-AIDS), Johnson & Johnson was asked by the US government during World War II to invent a waterproof, cloth-based tape that could keep the moisture out of the soldier's ammunition cases. As a part of the war effort, Johnson & Johnson then developed a product in 1942 that they originally called Duck Tape (because of its water repelling properties); however, once the military realized it could be used for literally everything, including the repair of ducts, it then became known as just that, Duct Tape. Though duct tape is often a last resort when you're in a construction pinch, there is no denying that many homes are built with blood, sweat and duct tape. 
4. Drywall
A crude version of drywall was originally invented in 1916 by the US Gypsum Company. Originally called Sackett Board and then sheetrock, multiple layers of gypsum are compressed and sandwiched between two pieces of heavy paper to form an alternative building material in the place of the time-consuming application of plaster. Although Sackett Board was largely refined in the following years, the construction industry ignored its presence until the majority of the US workforce was shipped off to fight in World War II. To offset the loss of manpower, drywall then became a staple in construction at that time because it was lighter, quicker to install and much easier to handle by the smaller crews. 
5. The Spirit Level
Keeping things level in construction is of obvious importance, thus, leveling tools have been in place throughout the civilizations. The Egyptians are credited with an A-frame apparatus that, when balanced correctly, revealed when a board was level but the modern version of the spirit level (aka the bubble level) was invented in the mid 1600s by a French scientist, Melchisedech Thevenot when he tested his theory – the balancing properties of a single air-bubble in a vial of liquid. 
6. The Nail Gun
World War II is responsible for yet another home building invention – the nail gun. Replacing the old-school hammer and nails, John Ollig, Reuben Miller and Marvin Hirsc are the war veteran trio responsible for taking the same concepts they learned from their automatic machine guns and incorporating it into a powerful nail-dispensing tool. Combining electromagnetism, compressed air and propane, they filed for their patent in 1956 and introduced their fancy nail gun into the construction mainstream with great success. 
7. The Chalk Line
Much like the spirit level, keeping things flush and plumb in construction is also of obvious importance; however, in this case, there has been very little evolution since 3,000 BC. Yep, Egyptian craftsmen can be credit for the same technology we use today in a basic chalk liner as they invented the method of applying chalk to a string for marking straight lines that were too long for a straightedge ruler. 
8. Glass Windows
Humans have built window holes in their dwellings since the dawn of man to create a sense of space and to improve circulation but have you ever wondered who was the first to introduce glass windows and/or windowpanes? Well, even though the Egyptians are credited with inventing glass for beads, the Romans are credited with using an unrefined and opaque version of the material for windows in their bathhouses as a way to stunt the chilly breezes that would otherwise flow through the rooms. Further, even though glass windows have been used for thousands of years, Irving W Colburn patented the sheet glass drawing machine in 1902, and triggered the mass production of glass on a worldwide scale. 
9. Laminate Flooring
Advancements in technology inevitably brings newer and cheaper trends in home building. That said, the Swedish company Pergo invented laminate flooring in 1977 as a way to enjoy the aesthetic appeal of wood or stone flooring without actually paying the full expense of the raw materials themselves. In the end they found that sandwiching a photographic rendition of the desired material between a durable protective layer and an adhesive layer (for application) was a convincing way to enjoy natural wood floors without paying a premium for the actual materials.  |  | 10. Fiberglass Insulation
The concept of insulation is nothing new within home construction, in fact, as far as history can report, civilizations have used mud, grass, animal skins, etc to insulate their homes and minimize the transfer of heat. However, there is a definitive moment when the insulation industry adopted an absolute standard – Russell Games Slayter invented fiberglass insulation in 1897 and construction crews have never looked back – well until recently, as cellulose fiber insulation has begun to rival fiber glass.
