With our list of interior designers, and gardeners & landscaping gurus, we’ve gathered a list of gurus to follow on Twitter to help you with your properties inside and out. But, a big part of of a home lifestyle has to do with the emergence of sustainable products and practices.

Green is an area that we ourselves here at BuildDirect know a few things about when it comes to select green building materials, like bamboo floors, cork flooring, and recycled tile. And we also are involved in holding our manufacturing partners to the Lacey Act, and to FSC Certification. And we have a green blog, as some of you know. When it comes to green, we’re on a path.

But, these folks listed below are the real experts when it comes to sustainability and green living, with blogs, books, personal appearances, and more. All of them share a willingness to add their knowledge to yours on Twitter and beyond. So, let’s make some introductions; read on …

1. @MSoeden (Meaghen O’Neill)

With an interior design and editorial background, Meaghen applies both skill sets into her work as Senior Editor of respected green blog Treehugger.com. She’s also the co-author of Ready, Set, Green: Eight Weeks to Modern Eco-Living along with Treehugger founder Graham Hill (@GHill on Twitter — way to sneak an extra green guru in there, Jonesy).

2. @TheGreenMamas (Amanda & Lia)

Susanna’s area of expertise is the place where ecology and household economics meet. 4. @JamesGlave

8. @chrisbaskind

If you’re looking to cut some of your consumerist habits, Chris Baskind may be able to advise you. Writer, web developer, passionate cyclist, and proponent of a car-free lifestyle, Chris is also the author of two green themed blogs about minimalist living. This is a guest post by Matt Blank of MBC Building & Remodeling, LLC. In this post Matt shares how his company was able to transform a backyard into a beautiful Deck. Matt also provided us with before and after pictures and the work looks amazing.

This Deck project was every contractor's dream. This customer lived in beautiful Lancaster County, PA, where they wanted their summer's spent outside having fun with the people they loved most. They had such a beautiful home, but they were very under whelmed with the size of their patio. Whenever we get to work with a customer on such a beautiful project, it really inspires the team. This deck is truly a work of art. Being a family run business, creating such an awesome deck for this family to be able to enjoy made it even more special.

What the customer wanted

This homeowner loved to entertain but didn't have the patio space to do it. As you can see, they have a wonderful property and a nice big house. However with such a large yard and a small patio they couldn't spend the warm parts of the year outside comfortably while enjoying the company of their friends and family. They had wanted to have the project done since they bought the home, and MBC was glad to be able to make this dream a reality. The homeowner was an engineer and able to design this dream deck himself!

The end result:

As you can see, what we ended up with was a Warm Weather Paradise – the perfect place for parties and get-togethers. The end result was a huge 720+ sq ft deck featuring built in benches and planters as well. Everyone was very thrilled with the result. The perfect house just became their perfect home.

All of us at MBC are very proud of this project, and we were rewarded for our hard work with a Building Industry Association (BIA) Award of Excellence in 2009. Professional Remodeler's from across the state choose the BIA award-winners every year and that makes this honor even more special to us.
