Oh no, today’s discussion on CalFinder is whether there are any downsides to turquoise and white, or whether, as I suspected, it’s a flawless design choice for any spring makeover. Let's take a walk through this interior design project by Julie Thigpen, founder of Modern Chic Home, and see why it works.
In the living room, crisp white is made crisper by the selection of a very linear, sharp-edged sofa. In fact, the whole room is straight lines. It's a great trick to use fun colors in sophisticated, traditional shapes to make them feel more grown-up. Like any color scheme, it needs something to tie it all together. In this case, it's the black ribbons running through the pillows and draperies, plus a great black coffee table that grounds the entire room. The design works particularly well in a room with enough natural light to warrant the fun, beachy colors.
The same color palette is used throughout the home. In the dining room, the furniture is all neutral, leaving the option for a quick change if it's ever desired. The turquoise here comes in the form of Asian-inspired chargers and bowls, and pebble-filled vases. Tablescapes are often ignored in the average person's decorating repertoire, but Thigpen shows what a difference simple, beautiful accessories can make. Again, the white upholstery maintains clean lines and the dark table is grounding.
In this bedroom, the subtle beach theme gets blown wide open! The black disappears, even the walls get splashed with turquoise, and the scheme is amplified with "Sail Away" pillows and a lighthearted print. The sand-colored floor and bottom half of the wall make it even more cohesive.
Lastly, this bedroom gets a more trendy touch, with dark chocolate walls and contrasting white shadow boxes in a great circle shape. The geometric theme is echoed in the night tables' square cut-outs. To counter the dark, dark walls, almost everything else is white with just ribbons of turquoise to accent. The colored-glass lamps and greenery also add freshness. What I think is particularly neat about this project is that it shows how the simplest of compatible color schemes can go a ton of different ways. Here, we've seen it go Asian, summer home, contemporary, and traditional. Nice job! |

Yet unless a vapor barrier is laid beneath that concrete, ground moisture may spoil the fun. You say you have one too many kids for the number of sleeping areas in your home, so you're having a bedroom added on a concrete slab? Talk to your contractor about water. It might be easier for you to ask about H20 than to start a casual conversation about capillary action or water vapor emission. But whatever conversation-starter you employ, you must let your contractor know you want a dry floor in your new room.  Photo caption: Beneath both residential and commercial concrete pads are vapor barriers to hold down groundwater. Global Plastic Sheeting Most builders won't need the reminder. They know full well how water can rise through concrete and leave a sheen – or in worst case scenarios, a puddle – on the surface. This is a minor irritation for a homeowner if the concrete pad is to be an outdoor patio. When the new floor is to be inside a home, however, and is to be covered with carpet or hardwood flooring, the moisture is a big problem. Concrete subfloors must be dry or floor covering will be damaged or loosened. To the eye, poured and finished concrete several inches thick seems to be a solid mass. In fact, it is porous, with aggregate and granular elements creating tiny voids throughout its mass. Through these voids, the dry surface of the concrete continues to suck up any moisture existing beneath it. This capillary action is elementary physics, so there is no denying it. The solution for any contractor pouring a concrete floor, whether in a basement (where groundwater poses additional challenges) or in a ground-level slab, is to interrupt the wicking movement of the groundwater. The usual material used to accomplish this is a solid sheet of polyethylene. It is spread across the prepared surface of the ground beneath the steel mesh that ultimately will be encased in the concrete. The plastic functions as a barrier against subterranean moisture rising to the drier surface. Water will not penetrate it. Therefore, the only moisture that the concrete floor can wick upward is whatever exists between the plastic and the surface. If proper drainage is maintained on the edges of the pad, that amount of water should be negligible. Which means your child will be able to play on the carpet or wood flooring of his new bedroom for years without encountering mold or mildew. Tell your contractor that's what you want. | Растущие сады контейнера травы Posted: 29 Mar 2010 02:00 AM PDT Пока читающ раздел сада Нью-Йорк Таймс я был psyched для того чтобы увидеть что статья на контейнере садовничает на весна. Я не удачливейш достаточно для того чтобы иметь ярд но я имею некоторые красивейшие силлы окна которые как раз умоляют для базилика, oregano и тимиана. Один из контейнеров упомянутых в статье было травой растет мешок. Я слышал просмотрения неистовства о этих раньше. Принципиальная схема пришла от великобританских садовников которые сделали бы большую часть очень лимитированного космоса сада путем расти овощи, зеленые цвета и травы в полиэтиленовых пакетах помещенных на шагах, патио и посадках. |
