Keepin оно свежее: 5 подсказок состояния весны для вашего дома

Posted: 02 Apr 2010 11:47 AM PDT

As the piles of snow begin to melt and all that pesky winter gear gets stashed away again, it’s the perfect time to tackle those spring cleaning projects. These tips will help you decide what part of your home should be tended to first.

#1 – Check Your Exterior Paint

While this may just seem like a cosmetic fix, it is very important to make sure that paint chipping hasn't left any wood exposed. This could eventually lead to rotting. Experts suggest brushing away any peeling paint, sanding it down, covering the area with primer and painting it to match the rest of the house.

#2 – Clear Out Your Gutters

Rainy season is upon us, which means it's time to clean out those leaf-packed gutters. If moisture is allowed to collect in these areas, it could weaken your roof and make your home susceptible to mold and mildew. Also, make sure to clean the downspout and ensure that it isn't pointing close to foundation walls.

#3 – Inspect Your Air Conditioner

If you live in an area that experiences winter weather, then your air conditioner has most likely been lying dormant for a few months now. In order to make sure that it runs at optimal level, start changing those filters monthly. Not only will this drop energy costs, but will also keep dirt and dust from blowing out from the unit.

#4 – Check Your Windows and Doors

Take some time to make sure your windows and doors aren't allowing for leaks or drafts. Seal these problem areas up to save on energy costs and damage repair down the road.

#5 – Repair Tile Grout

Paying attention to worn-down tile grout and fixing it as it occurs can keep you from spending a bundle on massive repairs later on. Re-seal those tiny cracks and if possible, wipe down tub and shower walls to keep your tile free from soap buildup.

If all these repairs seem like daunting tasks, break them down. Avoiding damage and keeping your home's value high will make it all worth it. I promise.

30 Breathtaking плавательных бассеинов

Posted: 02 Apr 2010 09:36 AM PDT

Now that the winter is gone and summer is creeping on us, it’s time to dive in and take a look at some of the breathtaking swimming pools out there. This post highlights some of the best and jaw dropping pools from around the world. Enjoy.

This waterfront project is a deck-level perimeter overflow pool, where the water overflows into a 1″ slot and is level with the surrounding patio. It overflows on three sides so that a floating, trackless cover can be stored underneath the patio on the raised end. These overflow pools allow for fantastic reflections, increased visibility of the water from further away and allows those lucky enough to get in one to be much more connected to the fabulous view beyond. The pool features a shallow lounging area of 6″ to 8″ deep water complete with an umbrella mount and lounge chairs for extended use of this feature. There is a separate, although hydraulically linked, therapy spa located in the raised Ipé wood deck. The deck cantilevers over the cliff side by the ocean. The gray Pebble Tec exposed aggregate interior pool finish allows a deeper color water and matches the 2′ wide Bluestone perimeter boarder. Credit: aquaticconsultantsinc.com

This two-sided vanishing edge pool features a black exposed aggregate interior pool finish and facilitates spectacular views of the waterway beyond as well as the adjacent dramatic tree reflection. This lakeside commercial pool project at Bear Lake integrates into the setting with it’s freeform shape and use of local stone materials. It effectively shows that, even when it’s too cold to swim, the inherent tranquility of pools has tremendous aesthetic value. This pool can be seen from the restaurant above and is a strong argument in favor or maintaining pool operation rather than covering them up for the winter.
