Kamprad and IKEA pioneered flat-pack and mixed good design, good function and good quality with low prices, which allowed ordinary people to buy modern, contemporary furniture. IKEA today are showcasing their designs around the world and continue to develop well made cost effective designer furniture. Jobs and Apple introduced the Apple Mac, the first commercially successful computer with graphical interface that catapulted the computer world towards what it is today. They have continued to do this and recently introduced the iPad.

This amazing refurbishment of Oscar Niemeyer's top floor studio in San Paulo, Brazil, was perfectly excecuted by highly acclaimed architects Filipe Hess and Renata Pedrosa. Starting as a demolition site this masterpiece is a perfect balance of space, beauty, style and contemporary architecture. It's hard to believe that it was actually totally demolished apart from the structure you see here. It's almost an apartment without walls!
Music and atmosphere are a big part of this residence! (credit) This original residence was once a three bedroom home, and now has become a contemporary loft. Taking on this project was a huge gamble but as you can see a well accomplished one! Felipe and Renata decided to seperate the social and private areas by incorporating a block in the centre. On the social area side the block shows off memorabilia while facing a raw concrete kitchen, and the private side of the block acts as a clever storage for linen.
Both social and privacy area’s happy! (credit) More surprises in this quirky chill out area. The two large steel doors at the end of this area are cleverly hiding the bedroom for when privacy from the social area is needed. The wood flooring really sets off the rug and the colorful cushions.
Hang out with a glass of wine and some music with soul! Lots of memorabilia adorn the shelves giving a fun warm feel to the space balancing out the coldness of the concrete. It actually gives life to the loft in the absence of real people.
The hub is cemented! The wood shelves and the flooring add warmth and ambience to this otherwise exposed concrete starkness. Together it has created a unique contemporary loft residence that oozes sex appeal. Another feature is the stunning view of the skyline, and the way natural light is allowed to flow through.
Fun items appear to be flirting with this contemporary space! There is a concrete structure that has been built under the back windows that acts as a bench in the kitchen that also hosts the wine fridge, and in the bedroom acts as a cabinet. Almost everywhere you go in here you will find a surprise.
Almost naked apart from the company of wine! Concrete dominates again in the bedroom, but joined by the rich wood flooring and the luxury of leather the result is a contemporary mix of rich with raw.
Rich and raw are united here! Another unique design genius of this loft is the steel sliding doors that divide the bedroom, when they are opened they cleverly fold and blend in with the columns. To preserve the original architecture the columns are all part of the original structure dating back 50 years. The concrete in this loft is more than a feature, it's has as much importance as the furniture, becoming everyday life in here.
Stripped down to the bare minimum – concrete works as the new raw material! The coloured furniture and bright items add to the character of the space and appear to tease the rawness.
Characters in ‘about a space’! The concrete has also been used as fixed furniture as in the kitchen the island is pure concrete which also acts as a table. This also creates a clear division away from the rest of the loft. The stark white of the ceiling was added to create balance and warmth of light.
Although the toilet is hidden the free standing tub and open showers in this bathroom question the privacy of this area as the glass doors add a touch of cheekiness!
