1. Brick Siding

The reigning king of home exteriors, brick siding has been used for centuries to preserve the structure of our buildings. It’s incredibly strong, low maintenance, and looks beautiful all on its own. The few downsides are high pricing and potential for water damage (brick requires a strong water membrane installed beneath it to keep moisture out). But on the bright side, brick siding boosts your home’s value by about six percent. And that is why it rules.

2. Fiber Cement Siding

Now here’s a winner. With warranties of about 50 years and exceptional strength, fiber cement siding is rapidly gaining popularity. It can repel virtually everything, including termites, water, mold and mildew, and can even resist fire. Maintenance is also quite low, with the exception of re-painting every 15-25 years (not a bad deal in the slightest). Most factories ship fiber cement pre-painted, with more color choices than you’d know what to do with. The price is also lower than average siding costs, a huge bonus for middle-income homeowners. All in all, fiber’s a champ.

3. Seamless Steel Siding

Unlike aluminum, seamless steel siding resists dents and warping, and is held together better by a strong steel base. It’s measured and cut on site, eliminating the seams and maintenance that come with lower-grade metals. Seamless steel is by far the most fire-resistant of all siding, and also offers superior weather protection. It does, however, come with a higher price tag, but the long-term savings in maintenance typically outweigh the cost up front.
